I would love to be able to create a system simular to this in the programming laungage I use. I use a simple adaptation of c++ called Dark Basic. It may be simplified but it is pretty powerful and it may be capable of handling an LOD engine simular to this. How does the planet engine work though? I love your LOD planets.
